INVEST IN YOURSELF
This is about you. You are amazing.
The physical and psychological benefits of singing will blow you away, I had no idea it was that life saving. Studies conducted prove that singing helps to relieve depression, and gets more oxygen to your body and brain for overall health. The vibrations from singing and making sound actually help to detox your body. Cognitive skills like speech, memory and attention improve. It boosts confidence and when performed consistently can even help you live longer. I have not however read anything that alludes to the fact that talent is a must to sing and to acquire these benefits from it. So... where is your excuse not to sing now??
The desire to improve singing in a way that is enjoyable is key to being inspired to continue singing. No matter if it’s solo or choir singing or both, The positive effects of singing are real and improvement can be achieved at any level.
I don’t have time or money for lessons plus, I’m too old/too young, untalented, plenty talented I don’t need them, people tell me I’m good, people tell me I shouldn’t try singing it’s not for me, I took lessons before and it didn’t really help / I took lessons before and it helped, it was good but I just didn’t feel comfortable, I’m just an ok singer, I don’t really like to sing… Really? Don’t listen to the chat outside or the chat inside, it’s in you to make sound, you’re probably like many people and secretly want to sing or the world already knows. Students have expressed to me over and over that singing is like therapy, it makes you happy and soothes the soul. At any level, be it pro or in the shower (And hey, pros sing in the shower!) you have it in you. It’s in all of us for a reason, let’s find out how far we can go.
Finances are an issue? It will cost you much more down the road when you realize what you could have accomplished in your lifetime. Ask yourself this… Did you buy coffee this morning? Did you buy gas? Did you purchase lunch or dinner or a movie recently? Do you buy apps, music, books or new software? Do you go to Disneyland or go on vacation? I bring this up because someone once brought it up to me and confronted me on my spending. When I added up what I spent on these various things I was SHOCKED at how much it was. Then after researching exactly what I spent, what investment did I really get back? I’m pretty sure Starbucks, Disneyland, and the nice restaurants enjoyed taking my money and I had a nice time, but investing just a portion of that money would have had more long lasting results. There is a lot in our culture that makes us want to buy and go and do, but not so much that gives you/us the power and says invest in yourself. I’m not saying don’t do these things, I just want to emphasize the importance of building up ourselves as people and expressing with our voices. Our culture seems to glamorize the glamorous but neglects the importance of the gifts we all have. I’d like to bring out your amazing qualities (ones you may not realize you had) through the art of singing and vocalizing to show you just how much you can do. For the ones who say…”There is no way I could ever sing”... I say, YES THERE IS! And, there is a way to fit it in your life and the budget too.
